Information for Authors
JSiSE (Japanese Society for Information and Systems in Education) annually publishes The Journal of Information and Systems in Education, in order to provide an opportunity for JSiSE members to internationally disclose their unique study results for the development of the theory and methodology regarding the field of computer usage for education, and fields related to this field such as database, artificial intelligence, cognitive science and educational psychology, and to popularize the pragmatic logic for these areas.
1. Classification of Papers
1.1 Unsolicited Submission
1) Original Paper
Original papers are related to the research, development, and practice on academic, educational and industrial areas. The papers present the novel, reliable, usable, and beneficial results of their researches.
2) Practical Paper
Practical papers are related to the results of educational practice, the structures and conditions of utilizing various information equipments. The papers clearly describe versatile knowledge and methods, which are valid and reliable, and mention the useful and practical results derived objectively from the practice.
3) Short Note
Short note is an article which includes clear technical description about research motivation, method and results. The article also required originality and reliability. It is not necessary to describe strict evaluation or detailed related work. Require to keep the number of pages to within 6pages.
4) Report on Practice
Report of practice is an article which reports the results of educational practice using information technology or equipments. The article also required practicality and reliability. It is not necessary to describe strict evaluation or detailed related work. Require to keep the number of pages to within 6pages.
1.2 Requested Submission
Papers written by the request of JSiSE editorial committee, such as invited papers, commentary papers, or translations of outstanding Japanese papers of JSiSE transaction.
2. Condition for Submission
1) Paper submission is basically NOT limited to JSiSE members. However, the submission as members of JSiSE is highly recommended as for JSiSE members the printing cost for members will be applied.
2) Submitting papers should not be in the process of reviewing by other academic societies, and most of the contents should be unpublished. However, this policy is not applied for papers which summarize oral presentations given at international conferences, annual meetings, technical workshops, etc.
3. Copyright
The comprehensive copyright of the essays or articles published in The Journal shall be subject to JSiSE, including the electronic usage of the essays or articles. It is permissible for the author to utilize his or her essay in the form of a duplicate, translation, or adaptation. However, in the case where the paper or its translation is to be totally or partially placed on a different publication, this should be noted by JSiSE and the reference must be clearly notified. For partial usage, the reference should be given below the document or diagram. Adjustments may be made if it is difficult for the copyright to be subject to JSiSE from the following reasons:
- When the contents of the article is not only related to the author(s) but also to the organization to which the author belong, and the consent by the organization could not be gained.
- When the author(s) does not wish to transfer the copyright for essays, such as special lectures given for JSiSE.
For citing other publications, the following should be kept in mind:
- Be careful of copyrights for the documents to be cited.
- Gain prior consent of the author and the publisher, when citing diagrams, tables, or pictures from other books or magazines.
- Manuscripts shall be prepared following the instructions above.
4. Handling of Papers
Submitted papers shall be peer-reviewed and determined to be handled as one of the following by the editorial committee, upon examination by the editorial member in charge and the reviewers:
a. Accept: Published as it was submitted.
b. Conditionally Accept: Conditions shall be made for parts unqualified for publication, and shall be published only if the requirements are met by making necessary corrections.
c. Reject: Not published and sent back to the author for not meeting the criteria of publication or not satisfied the conditions for publication.
5. Manuscript Format
1) Submitting manuscript should be written in English.
2) Page size of the manuscript is A4.
3) Initial manuscript should use 10pt Times font in double columned format.
4) The number of pages including the figures shall be basically within 8 pages.
The manuscript should include title, name of author, abstract, body text, reference, and appendix, in the order listed. Figures may be attached together at the end.

2) Abstract: Abstract within 150 words. About 5 Keywords shall be listed below.
3) Body Text: Body text shall be made easier to read by putting chapter, section, clause and item names before paragraphs. All headings shall have their numbers and alphabets in the following order.

4) Reference: The number of the reference listed, which is directly related to the content, shall be indicated above the related text in parenthesis ( ). The following are examples of the references:

5) Appendix: When details such as explanations for long formulas of induction, application, or computing equipments are necessary, it is desirable to attach this information as an appendix.
6) Figures: Figures shall be prepared clearly, since they will be printed without modification. Diagrams and tables shall be numbered serially throughout the paper. The title for diagrams shall be indicated below the column and titles for tables shall be indicated above. Pictures shall be handled as a diagram, and they shall basically be black-and-white.
6. Submitting Instruction
1) One separate page should be attached at the top of the manuscript, including:
- The classification of the paper
- Title of the manuscript
- Name, affiliation, postal address, E-mail address and phone & fax number of each author
2) Send a PDF file of the manuscript by E-mail as an attached file to the Contact Address below. Any files over 1M byte are NOT received.
7. Printing Cost
At least 50 copies shall be applied for by all of the authors. The table below shows the prices in JPY due to the page number and number of copies for JSiSE members, and in [ ] are the prices for NOT JSiSE members. Editorial committee shall make the decision if the following numbers do not apply.
